Out Of Hours

For emergencies arising at any time, phone the surgery number and your call will automatically be transferred to the practice answer machine which will direct you to either telephone the new number which is 111 or the Deputising Service (Barnsley Healthcare Federation). The answer phone message gives further details of this.

You will need the following details:

  • Doctor’s Name
  • Patient’s Name
  • Details of Emergency
  • A telephone number where you can be contacted.

Home Visits

A home visit can be requested by telephone or a personal call. Please make the request before 10.00am if possible, and give the receptionist as many details as possible of the problem.

Home visits are at the doctor’s discretion for people who are too ill to come to surgery. Please help save the doctors time by coming to the surgery if you can. We can usually see you more quickly and have better facilities for examination and treatment at the surgery.

TELEPHONE / VIDEO ADVICE

The doctor is happy to discuss any queries about your treatment, advice about management of minor illnesses etc. Please let us know if you wish to have a telephone consultation with the doctor.  If for any reason the doctor is not available to speak to when you call for your telephone appointment we will take your number and ring you back.

TEST RESULTS

You can ring in daily after 2.00pm for results. Results usually take between 2 – 5 days to come back. Please note we will only give the result to the patient not another person. X-ray results usually take two weeks.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS

If you register for On-Line Services you don’t need to contact the surgery at all for your repeat medications (no more struggling to get through on the phone). Nominate a pharmacy for your prescription to be sent to and you don’t even have to call just to pick up your prescription, we sent your signed prescription to the pharmacy of your choice saving another trip into the surgery. If the doctor has authorised a repeat paper prescription for you, you will be given a list of your medication attached to your prescription. Please use this when ordering your repeat prescription. You can order medications by:

  • The NHS App – download the NHS app onto your phone (you may find it easier if you know your NHS number but can register without) You can order your medication on there at any time and they will go to your nominated pharmacy
  • Registering for On Line services – this allows you to order your medication any time that suits you, not just when the surgery is open. Make enquiries about registering for this service at reception
  • Phone – Monday – Friday 10:30 – 4:30
  • Post – Send your list of medication ticked as appropriate
  • Call In – Put your list of required medication in the box provided in the Reception area. Prescription requests put into the box before 11.30

You can collect your prescription after 2 working days and after 1.30pm or if you have a nominated pharmacy – just go there to collect your medication 2 working days after requested.

Changes To Name, Address or Phone

It is very important that we have the correct contact details for our patients so please let us know if any of your details change and if the changes apply to others for example your children.

New Patients

We are pleased to welcome new patients to register at the practice. Call in at the surgery and complete a registration form for each person who is registering. Please note that new registration forms must be signed by the person registering except in the case of a child under 16 when a parent or guardian may sign on their behalf.

We invite all new patients to an appointment with the practice nurse on registering.

At this appointment the nurse will check your blood pressure and urine. She will also ask about your medical history, immunisation such as tetanus and also about any repeat medication you may be taking and also offer advice related to your general health.

Temporary Registrations

If you are visiting the area and need to see a doctor we are able to offer temporary registration and an appointment. Please ask at reception.

Contraceptive Services

Contraceptive treatment and advice is available confidentially to all women and their partners at the Well Women Clinic. We do not insert IUCD’s or implants. If you wish use any of these methods, you are welcome to discuss them with your doctor or nurse who will refer you to the appropriate clinic.

Alternatively, you can arrange to attend the Community Family Planning Clinic, or register with another GP for contraceptive services only .

Commissioning Organisation

The commissioning organisation for the practice is NHS Barnsley ICB based at Hilder House, Gawber Road, Barnsley. The telephone number is 01226 433756.
