Barnsley Safe Places

Darton Health Centre has been designated a Safe Place for all adults who need a quiet area to sit if you feel unsafe or unsure, scared or vulnerable when you are out and about. Just show a member of staff your membership card when you come in and you can sit here until you feel ok to go out again. We can contact a family member, friend or carer for you to come to help you. You don’t have to be a member to use the Safe Places.

If you have a family member or a friend who may struggle to cope when out please encourage them to join Safe Places, we have members cards in the Practice and leaflets to explain about the scheme. The Safe Places App will show you where Safe Places are closest to you throughout the country so where ever you are you will know where the nearest ones are to you.

The NHS App

We are always looking at how we can improve access to GP Practice

Did you know you can order your prescriptions from Darton Health Centre in the NHS App?

You can easily choose where your prescriptions are sent. So, if you know you’ll be away from home or you are moving home, you can change your nominated pharmacy from within the app.

You can also order your prescription at any time that suits you. There’s no need to wait to join a telephone queue or wait until the GP surgery opens.

It’s easy to use, and, if you hit a snag, you can go to ‘Help’ in the top right-hand corner of the app or visit nhs.uk/helpmeapp.

Find out more about the NHS App at: www.nhs.uk/nhsapp.

You can check your symptoms using the health A-Z on the NHS website, find out what to do when you need advise urgently, book telephone appointments with the GP on line. If you are also registered for Patient Access you can view your GP medical and choose whether to allow the NHS to uses your data for research and planning (this has been so key over the last 18months during the pandemic for developing treatments and vaccinations).  If you choose to download the NHS App for these services you will need to register for Patient On Line Services at the surgery.

News from the Practice Manager

The Surgery. The outside of the surgery building is covered by CCTV for security purposes and all calls both into and out of the surgery are recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

Darton Health Centre is proud to be a Safe Surgery for everyone in our community. If you don’t have proof of address you can still register. Immigration status or nationality doesn’t matter – Reception wont ask for immigration documents or share your information with the Home Office unless serious crime is involved. In partnership with Doctors of the World UK we will ensure that our practice offers a welcoming space for everyone using our services.

Please download the NHS app onto your mobile phone. It allows you to order your medication without having to ring the practice. All requests are actioned every day and they will still be sent to your nominated pharmacy. You can change your nominated pharmacy on there too, if you are on holiday and need to order them urgently. You can also see your medical record. Ask at reception if you need more information.

If you use the website to book an appointment these are only available for telephone appointments with the GP. We do not have the facility to book appointments with the Nurse or the HCA because the amount of time your appointment requires depends on its purpose

Please put Repeat Prescription requests in the box outside the Practice

Please keep us updated if you change your mobile phone number

Dementia Services

If you care for someone with memory problems there are lots of activities for you to attend to make new friends and get support. Please see the web page www.livewellbarnsley.co.uk  for all the information about groups in our area.

South Yorkshire Police recommend the use of The Herbert Protocol just in case someone wanders off. It is a great tool to be completed and kept in a safe place, just in case. The link to the document is below or you can collect one from the surgery.

The surgery also has copies of the Dementia Together booklet October/November 2019. They are available in Reception.
